"The L'Aire collection was directed by Michel Dentan and later by Jean Pache. Its main income came from trading Rencontre SA shares listed on the stock exchange. The Cooperative's sales were symbolic.
May 68 and its aftermath (strike at Imprimerie Rencontre in Mulhouse, devaluation of the French franc, postal strikes) dealt a terrible blow to Éditions Rencontre. The title lost 90% of its value overnight. In the years that followed, the Cooperative reduced its activity and suspended it. In 1974, Rencontre SA, a victim of the stock market, announced that the coexistence of the two companies had become impossible, as in the meantime the S.A. had changed owners twice and modified its articles of association.
In May 1978, after four years of inactivity, the Cooperative changed its name, modified its articles of association and became Éditions de l'Aire. The first book published was Requiem pour une révolution perdue by Claude Jaquillard. Since 1978, around a thousand titles have appeared under the L'Aire name."
