Artist Self-Publishers Fair - 'The Forth'
Sunday 9 December 2018, 11am - 7pm, ICA Theatre (free)

Under the motto Reading Art, Vienna’s art book fair at mumok is bringing the book as an art form into the museum for a day and turning mumok into a meeting place for lovers of books and art. Selected representatives of the experimental and independent artists’ book scene from Austria and Germany will present a crosssection of their work. Discover the rich diversity of artists’ books and get to know the artists and publishers. A lecture, a reading performance and film screenings complete the program.

GINZA HACCHO / EVERY BUILDING ON THE GINZA STRIP, Michalis Pichler

In 1954 Japanese writer and artist Shohachi Kimura published GINZA HACCHO, with photographs by Yoshikazu Suzuki of every building on Ginza Street in Tokyo as an accordion foldout book. Twelve years later, Ed Ruscha published EVERY BUILDING ON THE SUNSET STRIP in almost exactly the same style. While the latter has become a touchstone of conceptual publications and artists’ books, its predecessor remains largely unknown.

Publishing Manifestos (Beta Version)

PAGE PIECES are contributions to publications taking place on a page.

PAGE PIECES are Primary information.

PAGE PIECES need to be published.

Once published, PAGE PIECES cannot be unpublished (they can be re-published though)

If the page count/pagination of their placement matters, PAGE PIECES are pagination-sensitive.

If the verso of the page matters, PAGE PIECES are recto-verso-sensitive.

Rather than illustrating and/or referring to one original idea, every publishing of PAGE PIECE is a manifestation of it.
